“The one thing Covid-19 has underlined for me and Tuath, is the importance of home. We intend to keep going to do more to provide more homes for more people” – Tuath Chairman, Eamon Gavigan
The publication of the annual report is always a good time and opportunity to reflect upon the work Tuath does. As one of Ireland’s largest social housing providers, Tuath plays a key role in addressing some of the current housing challenges faced by people. The team manages in excess of 5,900 homes across the country, providing quality housing services to more than 15,000 tenants. Our residents include young people, seniors, families, people facing homelessness as well as those with disabilities and mental health challenges. We support them to maintain their tenancies, build resilience, participate in their local residents’ groups and local communities in order to reach their full potential.
Partnership is a vital part of our delivery model. In order to deliver quality housing and ancillary services at scale, Tuath partners with a range of stakeholders, services and organisations, including social service providers, support groups, other community housing providers, financiers, local authorities, developers and government agencies.
2019 was a year of ‘Delivering More’ for the Tuath team. Most importantly, it was a record-breaking year for the organisation, with over 1,050 homes made available for tenants.
Turnover surpassed €44.9 million and in excess of €222 million was spent delivering new homes, which facilitated the provision of housing to more than 2,500 people.
On the organisational side, Tuath was announced as the winner of the ‘Most Creative Response’ category at the prestigious ICSH Housing Awards. Tuath is also extremely proud to be working in partnership with Respond Housing, The Housing Agency, The Housing Finance Agency and Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council on Ireland’s first Cost Rental scheme which commenced on site in the summer of 2019. These 155 homes at Enniskerry Road are part of a mixed development, which will see 105 social and 50 cost rental homes delivered in 2021.
Tuath’s Tenancy Engagement Officers put together a framework for a National Resident’s Forum, which will be further enhanced throughout 2020. One of the major tenant engagement initiatives during 2019 was the hosting of Ireland’s largest ever single community engagement event. More than 1,000 Tuath tenants came together for a family fun day in Tayto Park, which was hugely successful and enjoyed by all who attended. Finally, one of the most important metrics that the Tuath team is particularly proud to have achieved in 2019 is a tenant satisfaction rate of 98 percent.
